~Improper and mixed fractions~ShowMe~

Hi,
For this week and last week we had 2 groups and we would work on MF (Mixed fractions) and IF. (Improper fractions) This is my evidence using ShowMe that I have learnt and I know how to solve MF and IF.
Enjoy the ShowMe!

I thought that changing from Improper to Mixed was easier than changing form mixed to improper.  Sometimes you don't know your times tables that fast so you have to take time and calculate.  I liked how we used materials for the first part  of the lesson and then we had to use our heads to make sure we understood.

~Should we ban plastic?~Argument~

Hay Hay!
This is my 2nd argument I did on 'Should we ban plastic?'. I think i did better than the one before (sailing around the world) because I used more information to support the reason/opinion.
What do you think? Please comment!

~Sophia :P

~Sailing around the world~Argument~

Hello!
This is my argument that I created. I had to the argument in an order: Introduction, bad, good, bad, good, bad, good and then the conclusion. Once I finished drafting and revising it I published it.
ENJOY!

~Japan~

Hey!

This is one of the homework that we had to do. We did it because we wanted to learn more about Japan because we have Japanese students visiting our schools. I used Google presentation and created all the effects using animation. It took some time but I got there in the end!
I hope you guys enjoy!

~Kensuke's Kingdom~ Michael's Map~

This is a map showing where Michael and his family went on there trip around the world. We are reading Kensuke's Kingdom by Micheal Moropurgo, this is similar to what we did with Bridge to Terabritha (Look in labels under reading). I used Google Presentation and animated most of it. I think this is a really good tool to use when you are showing something to someone or explaining something... (example building a sandwich)

To complete this task we had to write down and take notes about what the important events were.  Sometimes they were out of order and we had to infer which came first.  Then we had to find out where these places are on a map.

~Inquiry~Bottle tops~

At the start of the year all the year 6's went to camp. We did lots of fun adventure activities but didn't learn lots about how rubbish is impacting on marine life and our oceans, seas and beach! So we are going to help camp MERC with it... BUT we want the lesson to be fun and memorable...

We are also going to make a mural out of bottle tops, but we found out that when bottle tops are in sun light they can break down and the color of the bottle top goes pale and that is the sign when the bottle tops will be able to be crushed into small pieces. We (Room 20) want to know a few things...
1. does color affect anything? (Because people day darker colors absorb sun light)
2. Does the salt in the sea affect or does anything?
3. Sun light or artificial light?
We are trying to test all of this now and find out how long it takes for all of this to happen and when the bottle tops will crush so we know if we can put the mural inside or outside...

This will take a while but in the end we will get there. We Also check the different temperatures and whats happening.

Making graphs on Spreadsheets

This is a spread sheet that I made to create a graph. We asked lots of questions but in the end we stuck to one question to put into the graph because if we did all of them (excluding the name) it was really messy so we just stuck to one question.
I found it a fun way to do math (statistics) because we used ICT!

~My Speech draft/plan~

This is the speech that I wrote...
_______________________________
~Speech plan~
---
Speech is about - Little brothers and sisters-things you should know about (The Good, the o-k, and the Ugly/bad )
What type of speech? - Information
Ideas - (for each paragraph)
1. The good things about brothers and sisters - you can make them do things for you.
2. The o-k things that they can do. - being annoying & believing in things that are not real.
3. the bad things and ugly things - fights and being physical. Also they (might) know your secrets/embarrassing stuff and telling their friend and humiliating you and making you mad...
________________________________________________________
Intro :
-Hook
-explain topic and why you are choosing this topic.
Paragraph 1 : (strongest idea)
The good
Paragraph 2 : ( 2nd strongest idea)
The o-k
Paragraph 3 : (3rd strongest idea)
The bad and ugly
--------------
P1 - The good-making them (literally) servants for you.
P2 - Things that they do that are o-k-saying dumb things like fairies or superheroes (like superman) is real. Believing dumb things.
P3 - The bad-Fights and hurting you or (with older siblings) being plain mean and bullying you.
________________________________________________________
intro -
Sister - SISTER!!! COME PLAY BARBIE WITH ME PLEASE!!!
NO! Not now!
Sister - WHY? *Says enthusiastically* OOH DID YOU FIND FAIRIES?
I'm making a speech! Gosh can you please go away?!
Sorry about that... If you're smart enough you should know what my speech is about... Yes. Having a older or younger brother or sister. There are bad and good parts to it... So pretty much this is all about what they do.... So people if you have a brother or sister you better listen!

Paragraph 1 -
Firstly people want to know why having a brother or sister can be good...With a older brother or sister you could borrow really cool stuff from them... well it applies if you’re older sister is a girl and you’re a girl or if your older brother is a boy and you are... Personally I’m the oldest in my family and seriously my little sister keep asking for my stuff! If you’ve got a younger sister you can literally make them your servant... I’m not kidding... Just say something like... If you get me my book from my desk then you get a blah blah blah or atleast something like that... Bribe them with something they like but it can’t be expensive... make it little but nice and something they like!

Paragraph 2 -
Next we’re up to the between good and bad part, the O-K part. These are normally things that can annoy you but not as much as the bad and ugly parts...
Little sisters or brothers can find fairies, magical ponies, superheroes and like flying cars real. If they have EVER blabbed about how when they grow up they will be like barbie and save wild horses or superman and save people from a exploding building or something...
Yes. We get it! I mean seriously...! Just ignore it!
With older brothers or sisters they can find themselves like 'the boss' and has to tell you what is awesome these days or things they don't like about you.*says it poshy annoying like* *OMG! That shirt you're wearing was so last year!* or *ewww since when was lego cool?*
If it’s that IGNORE IT. Who cares? You like what you like and that makes your different right? I like horses and Taylor Swift... my little sister likes Pigs and One Direction. Differences are good!

Paragraph 3 -
*gasps* Yes! We are up to the bad and ugly parts of having a brother or a sister!
No one -believe me- likes bad things...
Fights. Those are one of the bad parts of having a brother or sister... Fights.
Normally the fights are about normal things like... who is going on the computer first or about if One Direction is better or if Taylor Swift is better... WARNING! They can get physical... What do I do though? If they or older or younger let them have their way! YES! I’m saying let them win if you're fighting about what is better... BUT when you're fighting about getting something or using something... it may come to... PARENTS! YES! THE POWER OF PARENTS! BUT-If you don’t want the power of parents share it or... be nice! JUST QUIT FIGHTING!!! Another thing is that sometimes they know your dirty or deep dark secrets that you told them or they found out... Another part of that would also be embarrassing moments! Once your brother or sister have got their hand on it they will be dying to tell someone and make you look like a fool! Look and act like if you don’t care... what they want from you is anger and humiliation! DON’T... AND I MEAN DON’T Look sad... look as if it never happened and carry on!

Conclusion -
*says sadly* Yes... This speech has come to an end...
Sister - SISTER YOU DONE YET?
PLEASE Just wait a bit longer!!!
Sister - OK!!! I’LL GO FIND A TALKING BUTTERFLY!
So guys you know how to put up with  annoying sisters and brothers.. REMEMBER Siblings are not always that bad... Just be you and be nice!
Well... CYA! I’M OFF TO PLAY BARBIE OR FIND TALKING BUTTERFLY’S WITH MY LITTLE SISTER!
*skips off*

In the end I was in the speech finals! Even though I didn't get 1st, 2nd or 3rd I was happy that I got a chance anyway!

~Converting numbers to words~

In the past few weeks I have been learning to convert numbers into words. Below is what I have learnt to do...

1. 4,309 - Four thousands, three hundred and nine.

2. 64,060 - Sixty four thousands and sixty.

3. 89,401 - Eighty nine thousands, four hundred and one.

4. 669,320 - Six hundred and sixty nine thousands, three hundred and twenty

5. 509,000 - Five hundred and nine thousands.

6. 1,101,388 - One million, one hundred and one thousands and three hundred and eighty eight.

7. 75,309,999 - Seventy five million, three hundred and nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety nine.

8. 45,021,306 - Forty five million, twenty one thousand and three hundred and six.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

I think this was a bit harder once it got to a bigger number and I had to remember if it was in the million or thousand place and how to write it down. I think I am better than before and more confident. My next step is to keep practising it and go onto even bigger numbers.

~Bobbatacious~Writing~

~Bobbatacious~

In these 2 images it shows what I did for my Writers Workshop. One of the picture shows the whole thing but the other one is zoomed in so you can see the writing.
Me and Catherine did this together and planed it out and then published it. Enjoy!

_________________________________________________________________________________

For my writing I found it fun and easy. We decided to do an advertisement because it suited it more. We planned everything out in our books and then went onto Pages and choose a template and started! We use nearly everything we wanted that we wrote down in our books and then added new interesting things.
I really like doing advertisements because it does not take that much time and it just easy and fun!
My next step is to keep going on with this but just use different topics and ideas.

~Writing Explanation~

~How rubbish can kill~

Rubbish can seem like nothing but really it does a lot... even killing.
You might be wondering...but how can rubbish kill?
Well this will explain...

So lets say someone drops a candy wrapper on the beach. The wind blows the candy wrapper into the water and it floats away.
Soon a bird comes swooping up the wrapper thinking it is a fish.
The bird eats it not knowing it is a plastic candy wrapper.
Soon as it eats more and more plastic thinking it is food, the bird gradually dies because the plastic fills up their bellies that they are not able to have space for other food.
Not only is it just birds that eat plastic it is also... Turtles, sharks and other marine life too.

Strange things end up in the animals belies... lighters, toothbrushes and way more!

We can stop this now, if we top throwing rubbish and litter everyday and we reduce, reuse and recycle we could save loads of birds from eating plastic and dying from it.
_________________________________________________________________________________

This is my explanation writing. We had to explain the cause of how birds and marine dies from plastic and litter. I decided to do mine kind of like a story because it was easier and it still had the message I wanted to have. Mrs Paton (our student teacher) helped up with it and told us what to do step by step and it helped me.
We had a worksheet where we had to plan what we were going to write and stuff.
I think I still need to work on writing a explanation but next time I will try to use more interesting words and make it just better.

~Bridge to Terabitha~Review~

~Bridge to Terabitha Review~

-Book-
I think Bridge to Terabitha is a great book to read and use for learning because you can find many different different ways to use it.
The story itself is very cool because it has different parts that are very interesting and parts where you just love it! I like how the author (Kathrine Paterson) made Jess and Leslie both different and how when they became friends they were like this special bond which was one of the main things in the book.
With this book in Rom 20 we have learnt what the purpose of the characters were and the differences from Leslie and Jess. Everybody in Room 20 loved the book and put lots of work into it.
Bridge to Terabitha is one of those books is where once you start reading it you don't want to put it down, and that's what makes it so amazing!

-Movie-
The movie and the book are both very cool. When room 20 watched the movie after we finished reading the book we spotted differences and part they added to make it more interesting like Janice Avery blocking the toilets to show she is the school bully, she is mean and you won't want to mess with her!
With the movie it shows the picture they want you to see but in the book you have to imagine it in your head.
It's amazing just like the book and it's a great movie!

~Go Animate~

These days I have been using my home account for GoAnimate.
I have learnt how to use it and made these videos. I have the links to them below.

Video 1:Chicken & Cheese
Video 2: Pigs and Monkeys! (Election)
Video 3:Learning how to use Form - Part 1

_________________________________________________________________________________

I think GoAnimate is a awesome website because you can create different things using different characters  In learning how to use Forms I just felt like doing it. I also got my friends to give me ideas for my videos and then I sent a link to them with the video. My next step is to keep going and maybe do my videos a bit more better. I just decided to do a short and simple video and not one that is over complicated.

~Monet Gardens~

The picture below is a piece of Art everybody in room 20 has done. We had to use different techniques like sponging, using masking tape and using a brush to create the pond.

What we had to do...

1. We had to first draw the horizon and the pond so we know what is where. (like the sky and the grass e.t.c)

2 Then we used the masking tape to create the fence. When using the masking tape we had to use the right amount of tape. If it was to short then you would have to use more tape until it was covered where you wanted it too. But if it is to long then you can just rip the rest off.

3. Secondly we used a sponge to sponge on the green and yellow for the grass/ground.

4. Then we did the drag for the sky using a piece of cardboard and using white, light blue and a bit of dark blue.

5. Soon we did the bushes using green for the body of the bushes and blue for the shadow. We used blue because Claude Monet never used pitch black.

6. Next we did the pond with a brush using the colours white and light blue.

7. Soon we did the Lilly pads. We had to use a brush and the colours... Yellow, pink and red.

8. Then we did the flowers (The different coloured dots) with the end (the wooden bit) of the brush and dipped it in different types of colours.

9. Second to last we did our paths witch is the brown spongey bit with a sponge and we used the colour         brown.

10. FINALLY we ripped of the masking tape (Carefully) but some of them the masking tape ripped a bit of the paper off.

My picture:

_________________________________________________________________________________
Reflection :

I think this was fun and simple. Not to hard or not to easy. We got to learn how to use different types of materials like sponges and brushes. This is a great way to explore and using different materials because we had to experiment sometimes with some parts we did. (Like a practice) My next step is to probably keep practicing and using the techniques and doing more art.

~Big Numbers~

In this post I am showing you what me and my partner found about really big numbers. We started with billions and then went on to even bigger numbers...
We used a site called Math Cats to find bigger and bigger numbers. All we had to do was type in a number (for example 100000) and it will tell us how to say it and if it is like a million billion e.t.c
This is what we found:

HUGE NUMBERS

1,000,000-1 million
10,000,000-10 million
100,000,000-100 million
1,000,000,000-1 billion

_________________________________________________________________
Reflection:
I think this was pretty easy because all my partner did was look and find the numbers and typing them down. I think we would've had more numbers but we did not have enough time but I think that we did great. I don't really think I have anything to improve on but my next step is to possibly do maths with these numbers and trying to use them.

~Bridge to Terabitha~Jess's Timeline~

This is my timeline that is showing what has changed in Jess in mostly all the chapters:

Chapter 1 - Jess was shy and unable to stand up for himself.

Chapter 2 - Jess met Leslie & thought she was a strange and weird girl.

Chapter 3 - Leslie beats Jess at a race and he gets angry at her.

Chapter 4 - Jess & Leslie become friends and they create Terabirtha!

Chapter 5 - Jess got a bit mean and he and Leslie wrote a love note to prank Janice Avery the meanest girl in school.

Chapter 6 - Jess is nicer and nicer to Leslie that he even gave her a puppy called PT (Prince Terrien)

Chapter 7 - He met Leslie's family and he liked them a lot  So Jess and Leslie's friendship grew stronger in this chapter.

Chapter 8 - Jess does not change that much in this chapter.

Chapter 9 - He is fearless and goes across to Terabitha even though in the creek there is fast flowing water.

Chapter 10 - he was more confident because Miss Edmonds kind of helped him too.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Finding where and how he changed in each chapter was kind of hard because in some chapters he did not change much and in some he changes a lot and you can not say that much just like a sentence or two. You also had to be creative with the design but I was not able to Draw it on but here is a picture...
I had to read some of the chapter again and again to see what changed with him and that was pretty easy, then I just had to write it down.

~Bridge To Terabithia~Leslie's Obituary~

~leslie’s Obituary~

We are sad to announce that Leslie Burke has died.
She died on 10 January 1974. Leslie died by swinging across a very old rope hanging on a crabapple tree, the rope snapped and Leslie fell to her death. Soon she was drowning in the following water.
Leslie Burke(Left),Jesse Aarons(right) & PT(Prince terrain) the dog.

Background information:
Leslie attended Lark Creek Elementary and is a 5th grader. Leslie was a friend of Jesse Aarons and they both were best friends.

Funeral Information:

Leslie will be cremated and her ashes will be placed in the Burkes family home in pennsylvania
_________________________________________________________________

Above is my Obituary that I had to write for Leslie's death.
For when she died we had to choose a random date because it did not state it in the book.
Writing it was not that difficult if you knew exactly what happened because we just read up to the part where they said that Leslie had died but not how she died, so all the teacher said is that she drowned. Only some of us knew how she drowned so it was easier for us. (the rope snapped and she drowned in the water)
This was a fun activity because we got kind of feel like we were her parents and seeing their perspective when writing this.
